Double Take: In Which CourtneyK and Amrie disagree about THE GOLDBERGS on ABC

The Double Takes are back this season as CourtneyK and I offer up our opinions of some new fall shows without knowing what the other is thinking.  In most cases this season, it seems we tend to disagree ha!  Today, we’re tackling THE GOLDBERGS, a family comedy set in the 80s from the mind of Adam F Goldberg (BREAKING IN; this guy, not this guy).  The series stars Wendi McLendon-Covey and Jeff Garlin, as well as George Segal, and a

My Take On…THE BLACKLIST on NBC

THE BLACKLIST (otherwise known as “The biggest surprise for Amrie so far this season…”) premieres tonight on NBC at 10/9c, and at what first glance is a procedural drama with James Spader at the forefront IS a procedural drama with James Spader at the forefront, but over the course of the first hour, becomes much more. Spader stars as Raymond “Red” Reddington, one of the FBI’s Most Wanted fugitives.  This man, known as the “Concierge of Crime,” mysteriously surrenders to

My Take On….HOSTAGES on CBS

What would you do if you were the surgeon assigned to the save the life of the current US President, only to come home and realize that your family has been taken hostage and if you don’t do what’s in your power as the chief surgeon assigned to the President, and kill the Commander in Chief, your family will be killed?  That’s exactly what Dr Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette) will have to figure out this season on CBS’ newest drama

My Take On…the MOM series premiere on CBS

Tonight on CBS, after the 3rd season premiere of 2 BROKE GIRLS, Anna Faris and Allison Janney headline the latest Chuck Lorre sitcom MOM (9:30/8:30c).  Anna Faris plays Christy, a single mother and recovering addict, working as a (pretty terrible) waitress, and struggling to make it all work – raising the kids, keeping her daughter NOT pregnant, getting to her son’s competitions, etc.  She has a sort-of support system in the guys in her life: Her ex is played by

Top 10 Reasons to watch THE NEIGHBORS Season 2

There’s rarely a show I feel the need to champion like I do the “little-show-that-could” THE NEIGHBORS on ABC. When it premiered, critics were not impressed (I was).  Viewers didn’t flock to it (I did).  But somewhere in the middle of Season 1, things started clicking – critics checked the show out again, and felt “okay, maybe I was wrong” and by the time the show hit the end of Season 1, with a final that found Supreme Leader George

My Take On…THE MINDY PROJECT Season 2 premiere

Talk about a turn-around!  Last year, I wrote this piece about THE MINDY PROJECT that wasn’t exactly a flowering review.  But I stand by my earlier assessment, and I happily watched the show that I wasn’t sure about become of my go-to favorite ensemble comedies across the course of a constantly changing first season.  As the writers began to figure out what did and didn’t work (good-bye Amanda Setton, and hello again Beth Grant), the actors found their footing and

My Take On…DADS on FOX

Tonight at 8/7c, DADS premieres on FOX.  A show about two best friends who run a successful video game company with each other and who have nagging, racist, aging fathers.  Done right, the show really could be hilarious – aging old men cracking wise about the good old days while their sons have to deal with having them around.  Come to think of it, that’s basically the log line of the show, and on paper, I’d watch that show.  Martin

My Take On…BROOKLYN NINE-NINE on FOX

From creators Dan Goor and Mike Schur (two of the brilliant minds behind PARKS AND RECREATION) comes FOX’s latest Tuesday-night-comedy, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE (8:30/7:30c).  Starring Andy Samberg (doing what Andy Samberg does) and Andre Braugher (who is funnier than I would have given him credit for), in addition to a really great supporting cast, the show offers something I didn’t ever expect that I was looking for: a police procedural that is actually an office-comedy. Samberg is plays extremely cocky Detective

My Take On…SLEEPY HOLLOW on FOX

Tonight on FOX (9/8c), Ichabod Crane (you read that correctly, played here by Tom Mison) is waking up in modern day America with a bone to pick, a score to settle, and an incredible ability to adapt to modern surroundings and technology.  Ichabod, however, is definitely not alone – with him to the future came the infamous Headless Horseman, now on a murderous rampage around modern-day Sleepy Hollow. When Ichabod realizes what he’s dealing with, he teams up with a

My Take On….the BONES Season 9 premiere

When we last left the gang at the Jeffersonian, things were not great.  Sweets had been a target of Pelant (ugh Pelant), Bones was finally ready to get married (an institution in which she never believed before Booth) and proposed to Booth in the sweetest way, only to have him turn around and say no (after saying yes) when Pelant told him that if Booth stayed engaged and/or told Bones why they needed to not be engaged, Pelant would kll
