My Take On….LAST RESORT, aka My Favorite Fall Drama

What happens when your own nation fires on you and your submarine, after you refuse to fire on 4 million unsuspecting people in Pakistan?  That’s what ABC’s newest drama, the incredibly tense and well scripted LAST RESORT, intends to find out. The series comes from the mind of Shawn Ryan, creator of THE SHIELD, TERRIERS, THE CHICAGO CODE, and eventual showrunner of LIE TO ME, along with Karl Gajdusek (former writer for series like DEAD LIKE ME), and stars Andre

Quick Take: PERSON OF INTEREST Season 2 brings more of the same, and that’s just fine with me!

When we left PERSON OF INTEREST at the end of its first season run, week by week, the danger of using the Machine and everything involved had begun to catch up on our heroes, and then, before you knew it, Finch was kidnapped at gunpoint by Amy Acker (playing the fantastic villain Root; she reprises her role in the premiere and throughout the second season).  When the show comes back tonight after a summer away, Reese is doing everything he

My Take On….ELEMENTARY on CBS

Thursday is a big night for me, with two of my favorite new dramas airing – the first one is over on ABC, and the second is CBS’ ELEMENTARY, which begins its run tonight at 10/9c after an all new PERSON OF INTEREST. Jonny Lee Miller (who you all should know from ELI STONE, DEXTER, HACKERS, his marriage to Angelina stars as a modern day Sherlock Holmes – an addict who solves crimes.  Lucy Liu is his Watson, Joan Watson

My Take On….SCANDAL Season 2

Last season, when SCANDAL premiered, I was on the fence.  I don’t know what it was that put me on the fence, but there I sat.  Somewhere about midway through the 7 episode run last year, I fell firmly off the fence into the “love this show backyard.”  It was around the time when it went from being a procedural story to one that included murder after murder, blackmail, adultery, and crazy drama involving the White House staff and Olivia

THE MIDDLE’s Atticus Shaffer teases Season 4!

I feel a little bit like a broken record to keep saying it, but seriously – give me THE MIDDLE over so many other TV comedies any day of the week, and I’ll be happy!  The show returns tonight with it’s 4th season premiere, another hour long look into how the summer ends, and the fall begins, for the Heck family! In the premiere, Mike accidentally reveals his favorite child, Sue tries to bond with him a result, and Brick

My Take on…THE NEIGHBORS on ABC

In what is coming to be known as “Classic Amrie,” my initial response to ABC’s newest comedy THE NEIGHBORS was “I didn’t hate it.”  A show that follows Marty and Debbie Weaver, a New York city couple with their three kids in tow, who end up moving to a suburb in New Jersey.  When they get there, they quickly realize something is WAY off about their new neighbors – first and foremost, that they might not be from Earth, exactly.

Quick Take: VEGAS is a show my dad will love….and that’s not a bad thing!

Tonight on CBS, check out the series premiere of VEGAS, the story about Ralph Lamb, a real man who became sheriff of Las Vegas back in the 60s. Lamb, played by Dennis Quaid, is a cowboy who reluctantly takes the reins, opposite mobster Johnny Savino, played by Michael Chiklis (so much better served here than he was on NO ORDINARY FAMILY). A period piece featuring a cast of familiar faces like Jason O’Mara (a personal favorite), Taylor Handley, Carrie Ann

Tuesday Must Watch: Premiere night on FOX – NEW GIRL, BEN AND KATE, NEW GIRL (again), THE MINDY PROJECT!

Settle in for a solid 2 hours of comedy tonight on FOX, starting at 8/7c with the much anticipated return of all new NEW GIRL, followed by my choice for favorite comedy of the year BEN AND KATE, another all new episode of NEW GIRL, and the premiere of my second-favorite comedy of the year (grading on a curve) THE MINDY PROJECT. When we left Jess and her friends at the end of NEW GIRL season 1, Schmidt was rocking

My Take on….PARTNERS on CBS

Wow, where do I begin?  PARTNERS is the story of an architecture team made up of Michael Urie’s Louis (a gay man) and David Krumholtz’s Joe (a straight man) – the two have been best friends since childhood.  The pilot follows Joe’s wishy-washy-feelings towards getting engaged to Ali (Sophia Bush), while Louis is happy in his relationship with his “hot (true) Jewish (not true) doctor (not true)” boyfriend Wyatt (Brandon Routh).  What killed the show for me, more than the

In which I revisit HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER after a season away….

I’ve made no secret about the fact that I checked out on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER years ago.  I did watch last year’s finale just to see if what we had all decided was going to happen with Barney and Robin getting married was actually going to happen.  But after that, I had no interest in revisiting the show.  Cut to this year, when season premiere screeners were floating about – I decided, why not?  Let’s check it out.
