Maggie invites Will out to her family reunion, she is shocked to see her sister Denise. Maggie hopes their brief time together will be fruitful. It’s a busy Saturday at Med, but back at the reunion, Denise crashes her car. She climbs out of the car saying she cannot see anything. Once at the hospital, Denise is insistent to get back to Dallas quickly; Will and Maggie want to run more tests to ensure her safety. April sees a little spark between Natalie and Jeff on the floor. Natalie isn’t ready to admit anything to April just yet. Leave it to Maggie to put Natalie in check. The situation might be a little strange, but she needs to do what makes her happy.
After further tests, Will believes Denise’s body is fighting off cancer. Upstairs, Dr. Rhodes is under a lot of pressure to complete a risky heart surgery; with the assistance of Dr. Laythem, the timeline is still tight. When Will is completing an ultrasound of Denise’s abdomen, he notices an anomaly with the scan. Denise is forced to tell him the truth; Denise is a transgender woman. She transitioned about nine years ago; and it caused some strain with her relationship with Maggie over the years. With the new information, Dr. Halstead needs to run more tests and add into account the enlarged prostate.
Denise admits she feels judged by Maggie for her choices. Maggie cares about her sister and wants to make sure Denise will be okay. Denise is told she definitively has prostate cancer. With the proper treatment, Denise can beat this diagnosis. Will is able to convince Denise to start her treatment in Chicago so she can rebuild her relationship with Maggie.
Reese is still adjusting to her new position as a psychiatric doctor; however, with Dr. Charles encouraging her, she will find her way at Med.
Dr. Laythem took over the surgery towards the end; Dr. Rhodes doubts his ability to be a great surgeon. However, Sharon encourages him that his time will come.
At the end of the episode, Will and Nina, the new pathologist are growing closer. They spend an evening at Molly’s over drinks. Relationships are blossoming at Med, keep tuning in to see who’s will go the distance.
On next week’s episode, Natalie makes a deadly mistake. Her mistake and misdiagnosis could lead to a citywide epidemic. Even worse, there may not be a cure for the sickness plaguing the hospital. Another after take next week to find out who survives!
