After-Take: CHICAGO MED “Win Loss”
Name of the Episode: “Win Loss:
Tonight’s episode wastes no time in showing Natalie and Jeff spent the night together after grabbing drinks at Molly’s. Natalie has to leave to pick up Owen and get ready for her shift. They leave on good terms and go their separate ways. Ethan is a mentor to a young man leaving for war in the next few months. Joey is feeling a little uncomfortable now that Reese is doing her residency with Dr. Charles; he feels like she is analyzing him with anything he says. Dr. Rhodes has a group of medical students observe a baby’s condition and has them answer real life questions. Will keeps trying to garner money for his malpractice insurance, and he even resorts to trying to find a roommate to save money.
Natalie struggles to find out why a baby girl is having so many health problems; Ethan notices Natalie seems a little distracted during her interactions with the patient.
Dr. Rhodes is feeling helpless over his baby patient; the baby needs a heart transplant but has little hope in getting one before it’s too late. He decides to ask Natalie to consult with her patient’s parents about organ donation. The discussion puts Natalie in a very difficult position. She reassures them of all possibilities and that she is not giving up on her, or them. The situation becomes harder when baby Alisha is a match for baby Tommy.
Natalie has a break in her case and concludes Alisha was exposed to a soil, which had harmful poisons in it, causing all of her symptoms. Natalie expects baby Alisha to make a full recovery and live a long life. Reese becomes upset at Dr. Charles because she’s having trouble adjusting to her residency. He reassures her it’s normal for the first year doctors to have these reactions. Talk less, listen more, a lesson all of us could use.
At the end of the episode, Connor is no closer to finding a donor for Tommy and becomes frustrated. The episode does not show what ultimately happens to Tommy. Meanwhile Natalie ends her night by visiting Jeff at his apartment! Their story will continue next week as Chicago Med faces a high profile patient and a stressful situation. If Connor and his team cannot perform the surgery in time, it could put the hospital in a very compromising situation. Stay tuned for more after takes!
