After-Take: CHICAGO PD “Made A Wrong Turn”
Name of the Episode: “Made a Wrong Turn”
Burgess and Tay are out on their midnight rounds and they come onto a missing white female named Sarah missing in the south side of the city. A neighbor runs outside to report a young white male, Nathan bleeding out on her porch. The team finds out Nathan and Sarah are engaged and have no priors against them. Halstead tries to encourage Lindsay to move in at his new apartment; she is still hesitant but doesn’t want to ruin their partnership. Meanwhile the entire department is out looking for Sarah or anyone with any leads to her whereabouts. A local drug dealer says he had an encounter with Nathan. Nathan bought heroin with fake bills and the moment he came back is when the trouble started.
Mouse tells Jay he wants to go back into the Rangers. Jay is furious because of the bad effects it had on him. The discussion isn’t over, but the case is still going strong with every available officer on the street. Mouse gets a lead off Sarah’s step tracker to abandoned hangouts below the L train. Sarah’s step tracker is found, along with a few locks of hair, but she is not there. Voight gets a tip about a man recording the moment Sarah was abducted. The lead is found and the tape is taken into evidence.
Kenneth Waddell is the man identified as the abductor; he was caught for sexual assault and was recently released from prison. Voight makes the risky decision to take his team into the ghetto to find Kenneth. Voight is able to convince one of the leaders to let them in; Kenneth was ostracized after his attacks on the girls; it made the team’s job a little easier. Once inside the building, Kenneth runs into another room and holds a gun to Sarah’s head. Dawson tries to negotiate while Jay goes into the next apartment to shoot Kenneth through the wall. Voight’s plan works and Sarah is rescued and reunited with her parents.
At the end of the episode, Mouse goes to Voight to tell him about the Ranger job opportunity. However, Mouse needs an old charge to go away so he can reenlist. Voight’s answer is not shown but instead shows Halstead moving in with Lindsay. They are together, in love and seemingly living their happily ever after.
Next week, Sergeant Platt is attacked and ends up in critical condition. Could this be the end of Sergeant Trudy Platt, as we know it? Stay tuned for next week’s after take to find out!
