Quick Take: LETHAL WEAPON is worth a look

FOX took two big swings this Fall (three if you count PITCH….baseball humor), adapting two very well known commodities and turning them into surprisingly entertaining send-ups of their original source material.
The first one to premiere, LETHAL WEAPON (which does so Wednesday at 8/7c), tells the familiar story of Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson there; a REALLY charming Clayne Crawford here), a rogue detective dealing with the tragic loss of his family, who gets partnered up with Roger Murtaugh (there Danny Glover; here Damon Wayans, Sr.), a seasoned veteran who is, dare I say it, too old for this shit (here, he’s dealing with a new baby and a recent heart issue).
Reluctantly forced to work together, Riggs and Murtaugh form a quick bond that should be interesting to explore as the first season continues. Crawford and Wayans have a great repartee that I think will keep viewers interested when the been-there-done-that feelings of the movie and cop procedural are over.
Bonus: Kevin Rahm is their captain and he’s a delight.
Absolutely worth a first or second look. Arbitrary B-rating.
