After-Take: CHICAGO PD “Knocked the Family Right Out”
Name of the Episode: Knocked the Family Right Out
Beware – the follow contains spoilers!!!
Following the One Chicago event, a new crime has taken over the city. A gang is pumping gas into homes and burglarizing the property. The intelligence team is called to investigate the incident. They call in firehouse 51 to check the oxygen levels. They all agree gas was used in the attack. During the house search, Lindsay went into the daughter’s bedroom and found blood on her sheets. Caroline admits she felt pain and changed her pajama pants. Lindsay suggests they go down to Chicago Med so they can perform a few tests. The prognosis seems to be a case of rape, but if DNA evidence is left, they can figure out who is behind the attacks.
Dr. Choi says the burglars used laughing gas to subdue the victims; Lindsay follows up on an old contact to find out where she can find nitrous for sale. Pete Damien is the dealer who throws house parties and has come into a large shipment. Dawson and Atwater go to Damien’s residence and found a bathroom filled with the nitrous bottles. Damien denies any involvement in the burglary, but insists there was another supplier. Similar robberies of nitrous and home invasions were reported across the country. Once the warehouse was robbed, one or two home invasions were reported soon after.
Meanwhile, Voight’s old friend Eddie has been released from prison and comes back into Chicago. Damien announced a party for the evening and Voight hopes they can draw out the other supplier. Once Damien identifies the supplier, the team goes to take him down, but he disappears into the crowd. Halstead finds him and tackles him into the pool. The supplier is taken into the cage and identified as Spence. But while he is in custody, a second home invasion is reported, along with a second rape. The second victim is named Tawny; she was staying at an Air B&B unit in Lincoln Park. She woke up to see the two men in her room, so she will be able to identify her attackers.
Ruzek gets a lead when he finds similarities between both home invasions. There was a black car registered to a man named Ty who has priors of sexual assault. Tawny decides to leave the hospital despite PD recommendation. Lindsay tracks her down and asks to look over some photos. The team discovers Spence and Ty went to school together; but even worse, Tawny is put on the lease with Spence. It seems that she helped in the set up for the burglaries and put herself through trauma to help her boyfriend walk free from the case.
Before the team can warn Lindsay, she is knocked out and taken into a bedroom. Ty decides to take advantage of Lindsay. He takes a hit of the nitrous and holds a knife to her neck. Before anything happens, Halstead jumps in and kills Ty. Tawny is taken into custody, while Spence tries to run from the team. Not even being hit by a car slows Spence down; Atwater finally is able to tackle Spence and take him into custody. Sadly, Tawny was the brains behind the operation. They knocked over homes to get extra money for drugs and accessories.
Trudy hears “poor” news from her father: he has gone bankrupt and she is on her own for wedding costs. Trudy is devastated, but Mouch is there to pick up the pieces and be with her no matter what. (Side note: Herrmann was seen serving aged Whiskey to Mouch, Trudy and her father. Was this supposed to be happening in the future? Chicago Fire and Med will resume next Tuesday…).
Lindsay was able to deliver the good news to Caroline; her attacker will never be able to hurt anyone again.
Next Week: Voight aims to help his friend Eddie get a payday; but will it come at the expense of his team’s safety? Stay tuned for next week’s after take!
