After-Take: CHICAGO MED “Mistaken”
Name of the Episode: Mistaken
Beware – the follow contains spoilers!!!
A theatre shooting takes place and mass hysteria causes a human stampede. Before the call comes in, Conner treats the doctors to lunch. April thinks she sees a spark between Natalie and Will. But Natalie is insistent that they are just friends, nothing more. Before more assumptions can be made, the ambulances come to the hospital.
The movie shooter is being brought into the emergency room with multiple gunshot wounds. An algebra teacher had a gun and took down the shooter. Natalie sees a patient that seems to have an eating disorder because of an overbearing, over critical mother. She wants to run tests to confirm suspicions.
The team beings work on the shooter, but when he flat lines, Will does not want any part of saving the man’s life. He instead rushes to his other patient; a mother who shielded her young son from being stomped from the crowd. She was unresponsive for over twenty minutes and her body is not responding to basic tests for brain activity.
Dr. Charles consults with the teenage girl about her eating habits. He hopes her mother will step back long enough so she will fall into his placebo plan to get her to eat.
Maggie and Sharon consult together wondering why there has only been one gun shot victim if the reports say shots were sprayed all through the theatre. They call in Detectives Lindsay and Halstead to break the news to the teacher Rick; the accused shooter, Peter is a prankster. The young man was only holding a leaf blower, not any sort of artillery weapon. Peter’s parents are notified their son may only last a day unless he gets a liver transplant. With his current situation, he may not get to the top of the list in time. Despite what happened to his wife Lucy, her husband Bill signs off on a kidney donation to the shooter.
Dr. Charles gives the placebo to Ashley, but he determines she is not suffering from an eating disorder. Now Natalie has to set aside her pre-conceived notions and figure out what the cause of the nausea is. She determines it stems from how her stomach digests because of how quickly she is growing. Since her mother is so fixed on appearances, a surgery can solve her problem. But Ashley decides to take the feeding tube despite her mother’s protests.
Rick Miller went from hero to public menace in a matter of hours. But after he is discharged from the hospital, he declines any extra help from Dr. Charles. He is back in the emergency room after deliberately stepping in front of a car because of the mean comments from the internet. After they are unable to revive Rick, everyone has to move on from the case. Conner moves on with Dr. Sam Zanetti; their work banter is to deter how they really feel.
The next episode will be back after the new year. January 5th will present a 2-night event featuring all three Chicago shows. Look for more videos from the set closer to the crossover event!
