Quick Take: HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER on ABC
Tonight, Shondaland takes over ABC when GREY’S moves to 8/7c, SCANDAL takes up residence at 9/8c, and HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER (written by Peter Nowalk) joins the line up at 10/9c. Viola Davis stars as Annalise Keating, brilliant professor of law, with a specialty in defense, who teaches a class “lovingly” referred to as “How to Get Away with Murder.”
What follows throughout the hour is a bunch of law students trying to one up each other while helping with a current murder case that Keating is trying, all the while managing to get in way too over their heads. There’s an affair or two, some questionable evidence gathering, a missing neighbor, and a surprising murder. I do love the majority of the cast – Paris Gellar is back (Liza Weil); Charlie Weber is a beauty (aw Ben…); Alfie Enoch from HARRY POTTER is good as the lead among students; and of course, BILLY BROWN has been well established as a MToT for years. However, what should be the big draw, Davis, didn’t quite land for me. The show is fine, but it didn’t grab me in the way that GREY’S did all those years ago.
I think it will be a huge hit for ABC, and for Shonda and her team. I’m not quite there yet.
