Double Take: In which Amrie and CourtneyK might have to stop speaking over their varied take on SUPER FUN NIGHT

REBEL WILSONThe Double Takes are back this season as Amrie and I offer up our opinions of some new fall shows without knowing what the other is thinking. In most cases this season, it seems we tend to disagree ha!  Today’s DT is about ABC’s SUPER FUN NIGHT (premiering tonight at 9:30/8:30c after MODERN FAMILY).

CourtneyK

First Impression: YES! SUPER CUTE!

Awkwardness abounds and I LOVE it! Sort of mash up of Never Been Kissed and Ugly Betty and sillified Sex & The City? Three nerdy best friends go through highs and lows of their lives together and grow. I really liked the cast (you can’t beat Rebel Wilson).

I’m really looking forward to this one!

REBEL WILSONAmrie

There are so many things wrong with this show not the least of which is the fact that Rebel Wilson is unable to speak correctly with an American accent.  There is no reason she has to hide her accent here; it makes no sense.  She is playing a newly-promoted lawyer who seems to be super competent at her job, but not at her personal life.  She and her two best friends decide to have Super Fun Nights every week, after their adventure in a pilot that may never air, and the show intends to show what happens every week.  For a comedy, the show is not funny, and I didn’t laugh at any of the jokes – not when her skirt came off because of the elevator, or when she karaoke-battled her awful “nemesis,” or when any of the other cliches happened and we were supposed to be charmed.  There could be a good show in here, with the caliber of talent in the cast.  It’s just not happening right now.
