Double Take: In which CourtneyK and Amrie are in rare agreement about ABC’s LUCKY 7

The Double Takes are back this season as Amrie and I offer up our opinions of some new fall shows without knowing what the other is thinking.  In most cases this season, it seems we tend to disagree ha! However, this next DT is one about which we DEFINITELY do agree – LUCKY 7 on ABC. LUCKY 7 tells the story of a ragtag bunch of folks that work at a run down gas station / car shop.  Their lives are all pretty much extremely messy, and they play the lottery together all the time.  Their luck finally hits, big time, when they win the lottery with a lucky #7.  The show starts Matt Long, Isiah Whitlock, Jr. (THE WIRE), and an otherwise new crop of faces –

CourtneyK

ANASTASIA PHILLIPS, ISIAH WHITLOCK JR., LORRAINE BRUCE, MATT LONG, STEPHEN LOUIS GRUSH, SUMMER BISHIL, LUIS ANTONIO RAMOSFirst Impression: I thought it would be uplifting. I was wrong. I couldn’t finish.

Seven working class stiffs, all employees at the same gas station/car repair shop all put in for the weekly Lottery Pool. You’d think this is where the story would turn for the best and start warming your heart.

It does not. It absolutely does not.

I couldn’t bear to watch more than the first 20 minutes. Even the “nice” characters, I couldn’t like them! I couldn’t connect!  I couldn’t take any more, it made me want to drink! Maybe I’ll go back and watch the rest of the pilot; but the first time watching, I just couldn’t make myself watch until the ending. And that’s all I’ll say about it.

Amrie

ANASTASIA PHILLIPS, STEPHEN LOUIS GRUSH, LORRAINE BRUCE, SUMMER BISHIL (OBSCURED), MATT LONGSo you know how when you’re younger, your parents tell you that if you don’t have something nice to say, maybe it’s better to say nothing at all?  Since I can’t say nothing at all, maybe I’ll focus on just how pretty Matt Long is, and it will distract me from the fact the LUCKY 7 is just not a good show.  It was a good show, when it was called WINDFALL and it was on NBC years ago, and Luke Perry and Jon Foster starred, but as I watched the pilot episode of LUCKY 7, I found myself having no strong feelings towards anyone.  I don’t care about the relationships, I don’t care about their winnings, I just care that the show is occupying an hour of primetime real estate that has a myriad number of other shows to occupy my actual time.  In short, the show does nothing for me, and I’m not in.

If you’re still in for the ride, or you’re at least interested in the cast and the pilot, check out our gallery of images from the show / cast, and let us know how you feel, after you watch?
