My Take On…..LEGIT, premiering on FX tonight
Tonight on FX at 10:30/9:30c, after the premiere of ARCHER, Australian comic Jim Jefferies introduces himself to TV screens on this side of the world with his new comedy LEGIT. Jefferies stars as a fictional version of himself, a “drunk idiot” who decides that at this point in his life, he has to turn his life and job into something more legitimate. But he’s not going to do it alone. Rounding out the cast are Jim’s best friend Steve (Dan Bakkedahl), a recent divorcé and Steve’s brother Billy (DJ Qualls), who suffers from muscular dystrophy and paralysis. They all deal with an extremely overbearing mother (Mindy Sterling, who is genius), and a vigilant night nurse at Billy’s rest home.
Jim’s mission to legit starts right off the bat in the pilot, where, fresh off of pushing Billy into the pool, he decides to make up for it, he’ll help Billy, for lack of a better term, get laid. What follows is a road trip to Vegas with the three of them looking for a lady. Jefferies is hilarious – he’s just slightly vulgar enough but also incredibly likeable and DJ Qualls’ (always one of my favorites) Billy is just the right kind of sympathetic without demanding you feel sorry for him.
By the end of the three episodes I viewed, I found myself pleasantly surprised by this show, and really blown away by the fact that while it’s the perfect amount of filthy and raunchy to be on FX Thursdays, it’s also surprisingly touching and I’m interested to see what happens next!
Be sure to check out the LEGIT premiere and watch it Thursday nights on FX – tell us what you think!
