CourtneyK looks back on REVENGE, and what she wants to see for Season 2!
After what can only be described as the perfect first season I’ve ever seen; REVENGE is back! But where could it possibly take us now?? Let’s look back, shall we?
Emily/Amanda concocted a masterful plan to put the family who framed her father, David Clarke, for terrorism and subsequently murdered him, the wealthy Graysons into turmoil, all of which resulted in a twisty-turny rollercoaster ride for the viewers. Seriously, I felt like I needed a seatbelt it was so good! As each carefully plotted piece came into play, Emily became more and more resolved in her goal. Going so far as to become engaged to the son and heir to the Grayson Empire; however that seems to have backfired on our heroine. Ah well, “All’s fair in love and war,” right? As the plan comes to fruition, disaster hits! The plane carrying the evidence, witnesses and SEC prosecutor explodes; presumably killing all on board and dashing the hopes of public vindication and justice for David Clarke.
Well, almost. In swoops Nolan, our resident rich-boy-genius to inform Emily that he kept some of the information for himself. As he and Emily review said evidence, the ever-informed Emily has a bomb dropped on her: her mother is alive. Wait, whaaaaaaaaat??? It seems the endgame for Emily Thorne has just been extended.
The Hamptons venom is still flowing. The public humiliation of Conrad Grayson has tarnished him, but unfortunately not stopped him from plotting. Drat. I really don’t like that guy, he’s got snake written all over him. While last season eluded to the executive being a minor player in a larger game; I’m still wary of him. He gives me the wiggins.
As Emily delves deeper into her memories, trying to piece together whatever truth she can; we get to see glimpses we should have seen in the first season. A girl’s mother isn’t something to glaze over, but the show barely mentioned her. Now they’ve got some catching up to do. Luckily, we get Jennifer Jason Leigh joining the cast as Mama Clarke! Flashbacks are setting us up for a big reveal; when that will be, I haven’t the foggiest.
FauxManda is still pregnant, but who is the father? Could it be Jack or could it be someone unbeknownst as of yet? I’ve still got serious suspicions about her agenda. Poor Jack, he seems to be the blindest of the blind and a perpetual pawn. I may be alone in this, but frankly I’m getting fed up with him remaining so clueless. I’m really hoping that Season 2 is the Year of Jack Knowing Stuff. As much as Emily wants to keep Jack safe, I think she needs a voice of reason other than Nolan, as sassy and fantastic as he is. Nolan has also turned into a bit of an instigator. Granted, it doesn’t take much for Emily to widen her targeting systems. As delicious as it was to watch Emily enact her revenge, I’m also a little worried. I’m going to need some personal growth from Emily this season. If she continues way she did in Season 1, I fear for the longevity of this show.
Alright! So, everyone is amped up and waiting for REVENGE! Will this season live up to the first? One can only hope! I know I am and I’ll be watching!
