From the Set: Raul talks PRETTY LITTLE LIARS with Shay Mitchell
Here we are on the set of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, ABC Family’s coming of age drama that deals with murder, mystery and mayhem. I took a few minutes and spent some time with the cast and got to know a little bit more about the secrets they are keeping.
Obviously with Maya dying, Emily is going through quite a bit right now and we even see her taken to drinking a little bit. Can you talk about her journey a little bit?
Shay Mitchell: Well yeah, with anybody when you lose someone, especially with Maya who’s Emily’s real first love, it’s extremely difficult. I think with everything happening right now, not just with losing Maya, but finding out that Mona was behind all of this, and now how Rosewood is reacting, the girls have been going through so so much. The girls are definitely there for her, but I don’t think they truly understand what she is going through, so I think, yeah, we do see her get a little tipsy to try and cope with everything.
Do you relate to any of the things going on with your character?
SM: You know what, KNOCK ON WOOD, I don’t and I think I am very fortunate for that. But, there are other things that I relate to about the scene. I think all of us have a couple of things in our life that we have gone through and it makes trying to relate to our characters a little bit easier.
I hear Paige is coming back to the show. Is there going to be a rekindling of the relationship?
SM: You never know, but in the mean time, Emily isn’t really wanting to jump back into the dating scene. Yes, her and Paige had something before and they were dating a little bit but I mean she’s lost her girlfriend and I think she needs emotional support from a friend, more so than a girlfriend, or somebody who is looking to have a relationship. So I think Emily is treading the waters very carefully right now and trying to get back into things after all that’s happened.
Shay, there are some nasty online rumors that Emily might be bisexual this season. Is there any truth to that?
SM: Let me just say that whatever we post online, these photos we post might just be there to trick YA! There are a couple of directors, huhhum, NORMAN, that love to spice it up a little bit. I think the previews tell you a lot about what’s going on, but we definitely love to play around and have fun with the audience. We don’t want anyone to know the surprises ahead of time. We want to keep it a secret as best we can. As far as right now is concerned, no, Emily is not bisexual.
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS premieres Tuesday, June 5, at 8/7c on ABC Family.
