My Take On…SUITS on USA
What are you doing tonight after an all new BURN NOTICE? If I could give you one piece of advice, it’s to be sure that you’re watching or DVRing USA’s all new series premiere SUITS. What is SUITS, you ask? Check out USA’s official description:
SUITS delves into the fast-paced, high-stakes world of a top Manhattan corporate law firm where hotshot attorney Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) makes a risky move by hiring Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams), a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout, as his summer associate. As he becomes enmeshed in this unfamiliar world, Mike relies heavily on the firm’s best paralegal Rachel (Meghan Markle) and Harvey’s no-nonsense assistant Donna (Sarah Rafferty) to help him serve justice. With a photographic memory and the street smarts of a hustler, Mike is a legal prodigy despite the absence of bonafide credentials. Proving to be an irrepressible duo and invaluable to the practice, Mike and Harvey must keep their secret from everyone including managing partner Jessica (Gina Torres) and Harvey’s arch nemesis Louis (Rick Hoffman), who seems intent on making Mike’s life as difficult as possible.
My thoughts after the jump…
I was instantly drawn to SUITS on the appeal of Gabriel Macht, alone. He’s been one of my favorites for a while, so to see him playing one of USA’s infamous characters was great. He’s the straight man to Adams’ super chill kid, and the two of them have great bro-chemistry that reminds of the early days of Peter and Neal over on that other USA show (WHITE COLLAR, my favorite). It’s a classic case of the college drop out with a street smart attitude changes the headstrong attorney’s life for the better, and the Adams and Macht combination really shines! As for the supporting cast: Rafferty and Markle are great foils to Harvey and Mike; looking forward to seeing more of their interactions. Rick Hoffman is there to be creepy and mean, as usual; Gina Torres seems wasted, but I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more from this boss lady as the show goes on.
In short, sure, it’s another law show, and we all know that they come a dime a dozen these days, but this one has a sharp, slick, USA classic Summer feel that has me on board for more!
