Talking CASTLE with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic
Just had the chance to spend some time chatting with the lovely Stana Katic and her partner in crime, Nathan Fillion, in support of season 2 of CASTLE Here’s the dirt straight from the stars!
What’s coming up this season for Castle and Beckett?
Stana: we’re going to explore some of the other characters, some of the side characters andc ostars a bit. we’re going to get to know a bit more about their lives, add some more colors to the show. We’re going to do a lot of what we’ve done in the last season, which is entertain audiences with that wonderful banter, that wonderful sexual tension that the two characters have, Castle and Beckett. As far as my character is concerned, we get to delve into her private life, and see a bit of a wild streak this season which is so fun to play!
Nathan: I’m going to go with what Stana said, but extra sexual tension.
One of the greatest things on the show is the chemistry that builds week after week. It’s such an easy relaxed chemistry; was that something that was easy right off the bat?
Nathan: Obviously, it’s written into the script but unless you have cast members who can….
Stana: …carry that torch….
Nathan: …thank you, and find that rhythm, that beautiful rhythm that’s been provided for us. It’s a real nice note to play.
Nathan, what’s your favorite thing about Stana’s character, and Stana, what do you love about Castle?
Nathan: Here’s what I like when I’m watching television, I like watching people get kicked in the nuts; I like watching people in situations I don’t want to be in. So when Stana’s character gets some egg on her face, when she has to put up with antics, or whenever someone gets the better of her, and she has to kind of swallow that, I think that’s a lot of fun to watch!
Stana: I think Castle’s fun. He gets to do a lot of neat stuff. Play Guitar Hero, and things like that. I get a bit jealous. He gets all the great gags, usually!
Why would you tell people that now is a good time to tune in?
Stana: it’s really entertaining. It’s kind of like a nice romantic comedy in a way to go home to, and just relax. It is a crime kind of solving piece, but we take it lightly, and I think that allows people a bit of an escape from the every day.
Nathan: I’ll tell you the crime – the crime would be to miss the show.
Stana: [laughs]
What’s coming up in tonight’s episode?
Nathan: A murder [we all laugh]. A model is murdered.
Stana: During New York’s fashion week!
Nathan: So you’re looking at a lot of sexy.
Are we going to see more of the family dynamic this season?
Nathan: I mean certainly you’re going to see it. As far as more than last season, I don’t think so. I think probably about the same. I think it’s a nice little piece that balances out what would otherwise be a really annoying character, to finally see what kind of grounds him, and I think makes him far more likeable.
What would you love to see your characters do this year?
Nathan: Skydiving.
Stana: [laughs] Right? Bungee jumping? I would like to see some more of her home life. Maybe meet her dad, maybe see her go on dates, or go shopping and hanging out with girl friends and guy friends. I’d like to see her ride a motorcycle.
Nice interview, thanks 🙂 It’s a pity though you didn’t use any of the more general questions we submitted… 🙁
Thank you for all your suggestions – I wish I had more time with Nathan and Stana!! Next time, I’ll get them all in! 🙂
Nice interview! My 12 year old sister saw last week’s episode, which was her first Castle episode, and fell in love with the show! She loves how Castle is such a smart-ass.
I could tell just from your interview that there’s a lot of chemistry between the actors and I think that has a lot to do with their character’s chemistry on-screen.
Definitely jealous that you got to see Nathan Fillion in person! I loved him in Firefly and was ecstatic when I found out about him starring in Castle.
